NRGBattle: Team building
On the 24th of May in the early morning, we travelled all the way to Delft to participate in the NRG Battle. The NRG Battle is an event where students from all over the world take part in a battle to solve energy related cases for companies. Sixteen members of our study tour were selected for this heated battle. Unfortunately we weren't all placed in the same team, but this increased our chances for a spot in the finals!
Our different teams worked on cases including water depth independent wind farms, energy efficient drainage systems and transition of gas use. After a day of brainstorming and preparing to present our ideas to the jury, it was finally the time to give the pitches! The contestants tried to persuade the jury with slick presentations. However, the jury was very strict this year. They decided to send only four instead of five teams to the finals. Were our ideas good enough to go through to the finals? Yes they were! Erik and Peter in team Siemens 1 and Siemens 2 both got through to the finals! We were very happy for them and we will support them when they are battling for the first prize in the finals, which will take place in Groningen in November.
It was a very successful day and to celebrate the success of Erik and Peter we went to some local pubs in Delft. Unfortunately, most of the city was quite abandoned, since it was a Friday night. After a few beers in a pub we went to our hostel and returned to Twente the following day.
